Course Aims:
To provide thorough theory and practical training in operating the 180 excavator, to enable you to pass the theory and practical assessments.

Training is available to both novices and experienced operators.

Duration of course:
Novice: 2-5 Days
Intermediate: 2 Days
Experienced: 1 Day refresher

Who should attend?
Anyone who operates any Plant machinery.

On completion of course:
5 year LANTRA card and certificate 

Minimum age:

  • We have a sight situated in the Ribble Valley ideally suited for carrying out this course
  • Equipment is provided

  • Indoor space for completing theory aspects of the course is available
  • Risk assessments are completed

PPE:
Please provide-

  • Suitable head protection
  • Suitable eye protection
  • Suitable work clothes including wet weather
  • Gloves
  • Suitable work boots including steel toe protection
  • High Visibility clothing

Assessment:

  • Theory assessment
  • 30 mandatory multiple choice questions (MCQs) in 45 minutes, pass mark is 80%
  • Practical assessment
  • Travel the machine on-site
  • Straight trenches
  • Changing the backhoe bucket
  • Loading a vehicle

What will you learn during this course?

 Conduct all operational and pre-start checks
 Prepare the excavator for site and highway travel
 Drive the excavator safely over varying types of terrain
 Operate the excavator safely in restricted spaces
 Prepare the backhoe and bucket to excavate
 Demonstrate how to safely attach and remove different types of buckets and ancillaries
 Select the appropriate backhoe/loader techniques to perform essential tasks
 Operate plant and machinery to excavate ground and loose materials to given work instructions
 Perform excavation activities in a variety of soil types
 Demonstrate how to safely place spoil into transporting vehicles
 Demonstrate how to grade, spread and level different types of material
 Demonstrate how to lift basic suspended loads with backhoe in set configuration(s)
 Describe the procedures used for loading and unloading excavators when transported on a trailer.
 Shut down and secure plant or machinery
